How This Site Behaves Toward Its Readers

New Every Morning

Last updated 2 September 2026

New Every Morning exists to make the 1928 Book of Common Prayer freely available, and we believe respecting visitors begins with how a site behaves toward them. This page describes, plainly, how this one handles your privacy.

Nothing is tracked

We run no advertising, no analytics cookies, and no cross-site tracking. You may read every page of this site anonymously. The only statistics we see are aggregate visit counts from Cloudflare's Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not fingerprint visitors, and which cannot identify you individually.

About your email

The only personal information this site can ever receive is an email address you choose to send us — to ask about the daily readings, or simply to say hello. Any address you give us is used for that purpose alone. It is never sold, shared, or added to any list without your asking, and you may have us delete it at any time by writing to the same address.

Write from whatever address you like

You are under no obligation to write to us from your personal mailbox. Many mail providers will now issue you a unique, disposable alias — a single-purpose address that forwards to your real inbox and can be switched off later without touching it. If that address is ever leaked or sold on by someone else, you retire the alias and lose nothing. We will answer such an address exactly as readily as any other, and we would rather you wrote to us under an alias than not at all.

Several providers offer this at no cost; Proton Mail is the one we happen to use ourselves, and it also gives free, end-to-end-encrypted accounts. We have no arrangement of any kind with them and receive nothing for saying so.

The daily devotions

The New Every Morning Devotions mailing is delivered by Substack, and the subscribe box on our home page is a doorway to them rather than a form we collect. Pressing Subscribe opens Substack in a new tab and hands your address to them there: it is never submitted to this web site, and no list of subscribers exists here for us to lose. Substack holds the address under its own privacy policy, and every devotion carries an unsubscribe link that works without going through us.

Where our own mail goes

Our published contact address is a forwarding address on this domain, not a personal mailbox. Mail sent to it is forwarded on and reaches a Proton Mail inbox; nothing is stored on this web site. If the published address is ever scraped or misused, we can retire it and publish a new one — your correspondence goes to the person, not to a permanent identifier.

Network reality

No page can be served without some machine in the middle, and we would rather name every one of them than round the number down. In full:

That is the entire list. There are no advertising networks, no social share buttons, no embedded video, no tag managers, and no data brokers.

One item used to be on that list and is not any longer. Until 2 September 2026 the typefaces this site is set in were fetched from Google's font servers on every page, which told Google the IP address of every reader of every page. Nothing about the site required that; it was simply the default way of using a web font, and it had never been examined. The fonts are now served from this domain, so no such request is made.

In the spirit of the thing

Respecting the individual is older than this web site, and newer than the 1928 Book: it is simply part of how we try to treat the neighbour. Where others track, we have chosen not to. The tools above — the alias, the encrypted mail, the anonymous reading — are one small way of practising what we pray.
